This Year's Model Updates:

Ford's first ever hybrid SUV continues into 2006 with package revisions and a newly available power moonroof.

Pros:
  • Powerful and efficient hybrid powertrain, large cargo capacity, comfortable interior, carlike handling, optional side curtain airbags.
Cons:
  • Four-cylinder engine feels unrefined at high rpm, so-so interior materials quality.

Everything is awesome except that the cruise control is overpowered at times and actually reduced fuel efficiency. A good addition would be to have a cruise control that operates based on rpms instead.

  • Exactly what we hoped - 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid

Got this car to go between San Francisco and Sacramento. One city is hilly and cool, the other flat and often hot. So, we do a lot of city driving on hills, and often use the A/C. In just over 3 years and 67,000 miles, weve avgd over 31 mpg. (For the first 5000 mi or so, we only avgd 28 mpg. This is as expected, as theres a sort of burn-in period for the engine. Since then, weve avgd over 32 mpg.) Weve never had a repair, only normal maintenance - oil change, tune-up, etc. The car rides very well, but the interior is hard to clean, especially after carrying rock, soil, compost, and straw for our yard. In short, this car has met our best expectations.

Overall very pleased with the vehicle. Low maintenance as except for fuel. I spent $29.99 for the first oil change at the recommended 10,000 mile mark and thats it! Mileage is very good for and SUV of this type, averaging 31MPG combined city/hwy (weighted toward city). I know if they they allowed some tweaking of the computer I could be doing better. Worst highway mileage was around 26.4MPG from FL to South Carolina but that was with a car topper, fully loaded vehicle and doing about 10 miles/hour over posted speed limit. :) The vehicle is used for work and play and it is truly superb.

When we took the Escape out on the road for a test ride, we knew it was ours. Its very roomy, has lots of cargo space, and you cant beat the mileage. It also has a lot of safety features my wife and I were looking for as were trying to have a baby. Definitely worth cruising into the dealership to check out.

  • Fine Vehicle Even in Houston - 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid

I was nervous about purchasing new automotive technology but I have been completely satisfied by the reliability and performance of the Ford Escape Hybrid. As another reviewer noted, in hot humid climates like Houston where use of MAX AC is mandatory, the gas engine runs, reducing gas mileage. For the other 5 months of fall/winter/spring that we have, the SUV is blast! All year round it performs like a 6 cylinder SUV. The exterior and interior finishes are of good quality.

  • Weve parked the other cars - 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid

Id driven over a dozen Escapes as rental vehicles while on business travel and never had one that wasnt tight, solid and reliable. Ordered an AWD version after driving a 2wd. We got an outstanding vehicle! We use the Hybrid for almost everything and living 35 miles from the city, weve racked up 10,000 miles in 5 months. The car eats up the awful country roads and is smooth and quiet on the highway.

  • BEST car purchase Ive ever made! - 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid

Traded in our 2002 Escalade for the 2006 Escape; the best decision (car- wise) weve ever made. VERY fun to drive and outstanding gas mileage. We were concerned about cargo space, given the fact that our previous vehicle was so large, but we have had no problems. Cute little SUV--I would recommend it to anyone. The first time we filled up with gas, it cost us $30, and we got more mileage with one tank than we EVER got for our previous car (which held 11 gallons more!). We love the fact that were saving on gas as well as doing our part to live a little greener.

  • New to Ford! - 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid

First Ford that I have ever owned, but so far, loving it! It was the perfect car for commuting and fits our family perfectly. If we were all large framed it might not work as well. It is a fun car to drive, and makes my commute much more bearable.

The Escape is fun to drive, easy to get in and out of, and gets great fuel economy. I would recommend to anyone. I can choose to drive with quick performance or drive for maximum fuel economy. I have over 10k miles and usually get 34 mpg on a tank. Range for me has been 28 to 38 mpg.

  • My Baby - 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid

I was amazed at the performance the Escape provided. It is a sharp looking small SUV, just right for me to drive all around town, to the grocery, nursery, and any other place I have a need to haul something. My friends like it too; it is very comfortable for passengers. I will probably keep this car for a long time.
